Perspective - The New Masters - The old masters are dead. The new (art) masters are alive and living amongst you. Just when you thought the urban sanitizing set forth by mayor Ed Koch in the 80s and the relentless task-forcing of the city’s “Vandal Squad” had clenched its graffiti remover-drenched hand on the last gasping voice of renegade art in NYC (and thus set a standard for anti-grafitti laws across the U.S. and the rest of the world), a beautiful revival is occurring. It would be foolish to suggest that a sub-culture born from ghetto-dwelling art misfits could somehow eclipse the masters of old on a current world stage, yet the urban phenomenon known as “street art” is gradually trending to be the biggest-next-big-thing.
